Estimating your annual natural gas volume
Method One. You can estimate your annual volume from your annual budget or expense report for natural gas. We use the following unit costs for gas:
- $0.31/m3
- $8.22/GJ
- $7.49/MCF
- $0.74/Therm
Method two. The gas volume estimator for homes. This lets you estimate your annual gas volume by answering a few simple questions about your home. It will take about 3 minutes. This only works for a home or an office located in a house
Before you simply guess
- This number is often printed on your gas bill once or twice a year.
- You can contact your gas utility and ask for a usage history.
- The average volume for a residential home in Ontario is 3,500 m3/year
- The average volume for a residential home in Alberta and Manitoba is 4,000 m3/year, which is 150 GJ/year.
- The average volume for a residential home in Maryland is 2,500 m3/year, which is 900 therms, or 890 ccf.
